Very nice blog – always nice to find a fellow Beatles fan. Personally, I opted to get the stereo box set, but I have some of the old mono records on vinyl… truly amazing to hear it that way. After giving a thorough listen to the whole set, I’d qualify it a bit. I’d say Magical Mystery Tour is better in the remixed stereo, as are some of their early psychedelic rock tracks, like Rain, Hey Bulldog, and She Said She Said. The White Album, Sgt. Pepper, Revolver, and Rubber Soul, I think, are definitely better in Mono. However, Stereo makes a good claim on the earlier albums, like A Hard Days Night, Please Please Me, and Meet the Beatles. So it’s a bit mixed. But with Sgt. Pepper’s especially there is no contest: Mono’s way better.

Interesting. Mono is better than Stereo. Go figure .. I believe it because stranger things have happened, an what “should” be better isn’t always. Kinda like “It’s a Wonderful Life” in color. So now I have to go hear the mono recordings.
